Coma69 are no strangers to Guilfest.
The 4-piece, Aldershot based rock band have played sets at both Guilfest 2011 and 2012 and cannot wait for the triumphant return of the festival this year. Having released their self-titled debut album last year the band is already writing to support their next effort. Never ones to shy away from the chance to get their music out there, they played over 100 live shows last year so it’s safe to say they are veterans of the south-east circuit.
Coma69 are instantly recognisable for their classic rock riffs, screaming guitar solos and prog-tinged rhythms that combine to create something unlike anything around today.
The band consists of:
Rachel – Rachel’s vocals soar over the band. Her versatility is matched only by her love of performing. She brings a soulful yet hard edged rock voice influenced by a vast array of talent, drawing from Aretha Franklin through Alanis Morissette and down to the darker depths of Amy Lee of Evanescence.
Gaz: Being the only guitarist in a band can be a daunting challenge, but it’s one that Gaz rises to every time. The freedom has allowed him to create a singularly unique tone, whether he’s locked in with the band in a crushing riff or screaming out on his own with a huge solo. Gaz learned from the best and the music in his collection consists of all the greats such as Slash, Zakk Wylde and Chad Kroeger to name a few.
Rhys: Rhys’ FX-Driven style supports the band perfectly. He fills every gap with a melodic and complex rhythm and loves to lock in with the drums to create a snap-punch rhythmic drive. It’s no surprise to see Tool, Rush and Pink Floyd at the top of his list of influences whether he’s creating mournful, haunting tones or anchoring the rhythm to allow the others to experiment.
Shane: To round out their sound they needed someone bold and inventive – Enter Shane, A self-taught, rock-to-the-core drummer with a huge passion for playing live. Whether he’s sitting on a beat or experimenting with new rhythms to compliment the rest of the band, Shane’s hard hitting is unmistakable. Influenced by the likes of Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin he’s even known to throw in a stick trick or two.
