The ultimate family event, GuilFest 2012 is now only just a few weeks away. Heralded as one of the top UKs top festivals not only for providing non-stop fun and entertainment to all ages, but also for its great music, this year's amazing headlining acts are Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Olly Murs and Bryan Ferry!
New confirmations for the festival this week are a special acoustic set from alt. rockers The Wonder Stuff on The Good Time Guide Stage, British-Jamaican Reggae Musician, Television personality and Reggae Reggae sauce creator Levi Roots on The Vive Le Rock Stage and the cast from the hit touring show “Rock n Roll Paradise” delivering all your favourite rock and roll tunes with “Elvis and Friends” on the Main Stage – all on Sunday 15th July; With celebrated UK Americana outfit ahab taking to The Good Time Guide Stage on Saturday 14th July.
Not too big, not too small, GuilFest is the perfect festival for the whole family! With spacious camping right next door to the arena, visitors don’t have to walk miles - like they may at some other festivals. Due to this and the easy accessibility of Stoke Park, it’s a very easy place for parents to take pushchairs too – some have even called it the buggyfest in the past!
Some other reasons why GuilFest is so great for families with children are that not only does the festival offer free access to children Under 12, but also reduced ticket prices for Under 16’s. GuilFest is also home to arguably the best festival children’s area in the UK – The Kidzone. Aimed solely at under 12’s, the area will this year welcome special guest appearances at intervals from Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat on Saturday 14th July and Zak and Panzee from the ZingZillas on Sunday 15th July. On top of this, there is children’s theatre, circus workshops, amazingly talented performers, balloon makers, costume making and much more besides. The weekend culminates a parade around the festival on Sunday, where kids get a chance to show off what they’ve been making. The Kidzone also has that rarity at festivals – clean toilets and baby changing facilities; and for those who wish to camp for the weekend there is also a specially enclosed family camping area for quieter nights and added peace of mind.
GuilFest hosts hundreds of stalls offering a wide range of services and goodies, from fashion and craft to massages and bubble swords! Moreover, there will be an extensive variety of deliciously scrumptious food from light bites to any continental delicacy you can imagine. Even when it comes to beverages GuilFest has a broad selection on offer from Fairtrade Coffee to smoothies, a late licensed 150ft bar serving GuilFest Real Ale, cocktail bars and lots more!
If you want to relax and enjoy the arts, you could pop into the Man In The Moon Theatre Tent, which will be showcasing entertaining productions of anything from Cabaret to Shakespeare - or you may prefer to drop into the eFestival’s Cosmic Comedy Lounge to see some of the best comedians on the circuit - including Mitch Benn, Jared Christmas and Simon Evans amongst many others!
Other great attractions at the festival designed to suit the whole family are The GuilFest Vintage Fayre, The Acoustic Lounge, La Discotheque, Farmer Giles Barndance, The Eden People’s GuilFest Gallery, and the under 18s area, The Plantation Zone.
The GuilFest site is situated right on the edge of Guildford town centre, so guests can easily pop in to town, visit the beautiful cobbled high street or even go for a row in the River Wey! Also, right next door to the festival is Guildford Lido! This really sets GuilFest apart from any other festival -Bring your swimming togs – you can wake up and go for a swim or a sunbathe and take a shower before the bands start each day!
