GuilFest 2011 - Lineup

District 6

After rave reviews for their performance on the Good Time Guide stage last year, local band District 6 get to have a go at the Main Stage on Saturday afternoon at Guilfest. Having spent the last few months engaged in A level revision they can’t wait to get back to what they enjoy the most, performing live.

Last year saw the band take their own brand of Alternative Rock to London, with a sellout headlining show at the Camden Barfly and accompanying record company interest. NME featured them on their Breakthrough Artists website, with Life Is Beautiful chosen as one of their 5 Tracks You Have To Hear This Week.

The Hope & Anchor in London described their music as follows: ‘D6 hypnotise with slowburning atmospherics somewhere between Foals and Joy Division plus a small measure of Radiohead. This is really dynamic stuff.’, with the band citing influences from Bloc Party to U2 and Coldplay.

Accolades from previous Guilfest performances include
‘The crowd came running… Definitely worth checking out.’ Ben Sherman Blog
‘By far and away Rivmixx's favourites were a young four piece by the name of District 6’ Rivmixx
‘They ended up regaling the tent with shimmering pop-rock … they show all the signs of a promising future’ Daily Music Guide

District 6 have a few Guilfest claims to fame, including the youngest band to play on one of the main stages and one of the most local bands, with all four living within walking distance of the festival site on Stoke Park.

The band consists of Rick Elson (Guitar & Vocals), John Sanderson (Guitar & Trumpet), Jack Johnson (Bass) & Nick Veira (Drums) who have been playing together for many years, with their first gigs as a band occurring in early 2008.

After a few local gigs, District 6 played to a packed Surrey Advertiser tent at Guilfest 08, aged just 15, and followed that by winning the Guildford Youth Battle of the Bands, beating groups from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire in the final.  They recorded their first songs at Surrey University and also performed live on Eagle Radio.  Since then the band have continued to play and headline gigs around Guildford, as well as being invited to play at the West End Centre, Aldershot and a number of venues around London. They record their own music which can be heard on the band’s website.
