Calling All Astronauts

"Dark electro indie punk with politics, hints of early Human League, but 21st century" is how Louder Than War.com describe London 3-piece Calling All Astronauts in their Top 50 new band tips for 2011. The brainchild of guitarist JJ Browning formerly of pop-punk pioneers Caffeine and vocalist/programmer David B of seminal UK rap-metalers US:UK. J had toured the world with Caffeine opening for such luminaries as The Offspring, Blink 182 and AFI, and was feeling it was time for a new challenge. A chance meeting in at a petrol station in Fulham, between the two old friends saw the birth of Calling All Astronauts.

The two of them hit it off musically immediately, and immediately added Croatian born bassist, kristi Bury to their throng. Drawing inspiration from a diverse list of influences they have managed to mix floor filling breaks, dance loops, hard as hell guitars, dark vocals with attitude and a serious blend of dynamic bass sounds. They have spent the last 12 months in their own custom studio sculpting their ideas into what, upon hearing, producer Julian Standen described as "an apocalyptical power chord uprising, smelted in a furnace of social and political dissatisfaction" their debut single “Someone Like You” taken from their forthcoming album is out in September.
