"Get yourself to the front and make sure that you don't have too much beer in your glass because this place is going to errupt and go absolutely crazy!"
That was the advice that I was given from a Pogues fan earlier in the day .... good advice! (and watch out for the green T-Shirts, they will seem to come out from nowhere!)
Shane was on form and the Guilford crowd were most definately in the right frame of mind and up for it as the Pogues Irish folk pounded from the BBC main stage! It was also nice to see young kids on their parents shoulders punching the air and many a jig being danced!! Now, if i was to be completely honest i did not understand a lot of what Shane was saying through out the gig however one of the highlights of the set for me was when shane said "It's good to be back here in .... where are we?....Guildford?....dirty old town and then the band launched into the classic track "Dirty Old Town." I could help but watch the man as he staggered about the stage swinging his microphone around!
The Pogues delivered a great set and did not disappoint the crowd coming back onto the stage to perform a 3 track encore. It was a great way to end a great first day at Guilfest
