GUILFEST SET TO BE A HOT HOUSE OF FUN - BY HUGH FORT

ONE of Irish folk music's biggest bands is heading to Guilfest, next month and the Hothouse Flowers are promising an evening of fun and entertainment at their only UK festival of the summer. The band will be taking their unique brand of Irish rooted rock and soul to the festival on Friday, July 15.

Guitarist and tin whistler Fiachna O'Braonain, speaking exclusively to The Standard, said the band can't wait to get on stage. He said: "It should be a lot of fun, we are really looking forward to doing the Friday at the Guilfest." The band are taking a break from their US tour for the gig, and are promising a mix of tunes new and old for their fans at the gig. He added: "We've had a new record out fairly recently so we'll be playing a bit of stuff on that as well as few old ones. "We usually look to the crowd to see what they're up for and tend to tailor the show, whatever makes the magic happen."

He was regretful he couldn't spend more time at the festival, as he was very keen to see another legendary Irish act. O'Braonin said: "I'd love to see The Pogues, but we're on at the same time as them so I don't know how we'll manage it.”Unfortunately, we're flying in and then flying back out again straight after.” He added the band were working on new material and were set to return to the studio in the near future. "I've been writing a bit of new stuff, we are hoping to get back into the studio in the Autumn, so that's exciting."
