In the late 80’s, as a backlash to the manufactured disco pap of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, local band Macavitys Cat formed in a launderette in Lesbourne Road Reigate. Nearly a decade later they had released three CD’s, toured extensively in the UK , Europe and Iceland PLC. These gigs were big shows including The Brixton Academy and The Reading Festival.

In the opinion of The United Stoats of America time has moved on but things still haven’t changed. Again, disillusioned with current musical trends 4 founder members of Macavitys and 2 of the original Twelve Sullivans are crusading again.

Their debut gig was at The Mean Fiddler Country Punk Extravaganza at the Garage in Islington playing alongside punk strumpets Toxic Slut and Country Punk herberts Some Dogs.  The Mean Fiddler were so impressed they recorded the Stoats for broadcast on their web site[ www.meanfiddler.com]

Having stormed the 2004 Guilfest, what was intended to be a low-key voyage back into the live music scene, they are in danger of writing another chapter of musical mayhem. With a musical style that can only be described as skiffled up, stoat-tastic, lo-fi, car-boot, rustic, stomp-a-billy. At Guilfest 2004 they were joined on stage by 25 Turkish Fez heads, a belly dancer and a camel. A record in itself.

The band who refuse to appear on TV or sign to a major record company and have never been reviewed in any of the music papers, have got where they are today purely on their own efforts and the word of mouth support of their fans. Julie and Geoffrey Rogers 20 Woodbines Avenue Frinton.
