The Storys are a seven-piece alt/country/rock band from South Wales .
At the core are four singer-songwriters (Steve Balsamo, Andy Collins, Dai Smith and Rob Thompson) who all sing lead vocals (Steve being the main front man). The line up is completed by Brian Thomas and Slack who handle drums and percussion while Alan Thomas handles piano, organ, mandolin, banjo and lap steel.
Songs came falling from the sky as soon as the four main writers got together. They decided to record these ideas in a converted cinema in the South Wales Valleys . What was planned as a two-week stint turned into 18 months of prolific recording and madness. Over thirty songs were completed during this period many of which are on the album. The album was then mixed by Joe Gibb (catatonia/leftfieldlFuneral for a Friend) and is currently looking for imminent release.
They have a mid 70's West-coast sensibility but with a much darker lyrical edge. Their sound can turn from tender country-tinged ballads one minute, to an as wide as the ocean stomp the next.
The Storys are primarily a live band; many gigs are lined up for 2005. Their first gig in was to over 70 thousand people at The Olympic Torch Concert at Buckingham Palace (with Rod Stewart, James Brown, Ozzy Osborne).
The Storys see themselves releasing their self-titled album sometime soon in 2005. They are looking to tour extensively across Britain , Europe and hopefully Am erica . They will put as much work into their live performance/promotion as they put into the making of the record.
