Sym-Choon came into being when Jason Sym-Choon (vocals/guitar) moved to Surrey , UK from Adelaide , South Australia in late 2003. Armed with a collection of infectious rock and pop melodies, Jason hooked up with local musicians Alex Bell (bass/vocals) and Gareth Flegg (guitar) to develop his repertoire of songs and rehearse for a powerful live show. Guildford-based drummer Dan Tucker finalised the line-up in late 2004 and the band make its live debut at Brighton ’s Concorde 2 in November 2004.
The members’ roots are firmly in the classic British rock sounds of Led Zeppelin and The Who, but you’ll also hear the melodic hooks of The Police and Crowded House in the band’s songs. The no bullshit sound and attitude of Aussie rock legends Cold Chisel and AC/DC also shine through.
This unlikely but undeniably effective blend of influences makes for a memorable and diverse bunch of songs, with the endearing combination of acoustic-tinged melody and hard rock energy. Fans of pop, rock and metal will all find something appealing about the band – there’s something for anyone who appreciates good songwriting, quality music and an entertaining and energetic live show.
The band is looking forward to playing to as many people as possible in 2005 and beyond. Have a listen to our demo, visit our web site and get in touch soon!
