‘These guys are still in pre-school – and they rock’ – Zane Lowe

‘A band to watch – next year will be theirs’ – Steve Lamacq

‘With their crashing riffs and rock ‘n’ roll shimmer Smother are stars in waiting and know it, surely it’s only a matter of time before the rest of us do too.’ - Kerrang

This new year expect to be hearing much about Smother. The Essex three piece have already been making waves and their new single ‘Use’ (produced by Dave Eringa (Ash, Idlewild and the Manic Street Preachers) is a snarling blast of a song, sitting somewhere between QOTSA and the Foo Fighters, complete with nagging guitar hooks and howling vocals. ‘Use’ shows exactly why this band won’t be staying under wraps for long.

Formed in 2002 whilst still in their teens, Luke (vocals / guitar) Leon ( bass / vocals) and Dave (drums / vocals) drew attention right from the off. Their first single ‘Square Wheels’ saw the band playlisted by Radio One and Xfm – both of which requested sessions and plays from everyone from Mary Ann Hobbs to Mark Radcliffe. What would you expect from a band who according to Luke are “probably one of the only bands in Britain today who listen to Big Black, Glenn Branca, Scott Walker, Prince, Public Enemy, John Coltrane, Kraftwerk, James Brown and Captain Beefheart during breakfast each morning, before reciting “I must not name check bands to look cool” twenty times in front of the mirror.”

Blistering songs and incendiary live shows have ensured a fervent following for Smother – best catch ‘em now!
