The welcoming spring/summer month of June marks the return of RALPH MYERZ & JACK HERREN BAND, officially “your new best friends” and unofficially the soundtrack to this summer’s antics provided for your listening pleasure. Their new album ‘YOUR NEW BEST FRIENDS’, the follow up to the much lauded and loved debut ‘A SPECIAL ALBUM’ is released on Rykodisc on June 13th 2005 and see’s our Norwegian heroes return to soothe your moods with another immaculate barrage of sensory tunage.

As with previous RM&JHB efforts expect cinematic sound-scapes, rolling dubbed out thunder, chizophrenic breaks and a sprinkle of Viking twinkle in the eye. The passion and the thrashing of a dance band resolutely influenced by the likes of Kiss, ACDC & Metallica as much as the soundtracks of Morricone & Arnold, Classic porn themes (they are after-all named after Russ Meyer’s cameraman), Kraftwerk, Faltermeyer, George Clinton, Jamaica dub or A Tribe Called Quest and Prince.‘A Special album’ warmed its way into 100,000 homes worldwide thanks to its combination of classic singles (‘Nikita’, ‘Casino’ and ‘Think Twice’amongst many of the album’s standouts)and their consistent touring – The band headlined the big chill tour, opened the mainstage at Glastonbury last summer, opened for Gotan Project, played the Big Chill mainstage two years in a row, Summer Sundae in Leicester and huge tours across Scandinavia and Europe, and were championed on the dancefloor by the likes of Dimitri From Paris, and Richard Dorfmeister. Giles Peterson, LTJ Bukem, Mr Scruff, Rob Da Bank & Chris coco amongst
others.

From his studio control room in Bergen, Norway (also home to Annie, Kings Of Convenience, Magnet and Royksopp amongst others) Erlend Sellevold (aka Ralph) aided and abetted by the dynamic drum/ percussion duo that is the mighty Tarjei Strom & Thomas Lonnheim, has once again set about creating a full length set that takes the listener across the spectrum and off the board. Erlend has remixed the likes of Felix Da Housecat Scissor Sisters amongst others and he continues to DJ around the world From the strung out opening of ‘Kill The Habit’ the stage is set, all meticulously layered and finished with a spine-tingling vocal courtesy of old friend and fellow Bergen-ite Even ‘Magnet’ Johansen, to the paranoid stomp of ‘Dubspace’… ‘YNBF’s’ has it all. There is the saccharine sweet pop sensation of ‘Lipstick’, the crackling old fashioned loved up beauty of ‘My Private Night’ – a truly defining RMJHB moment recorded in time. So there you have it, Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band will soothe your soul, cure your broken heart and rock your world! Another special album indeed from your new best friends.

‘Your New Best Friends’ is released on Rykodisc/Emperor Norton on June
13th 2005
