Nu-Folk singer Martha Tilston writes and sings intimate, mesmerising self - penned songs of life and love, from the soft and sensual to the political and poetic. Previously part of cult acoustic duo Mouse, and now a solo artist, Martha's live shows attract a large audience of dedicated fans wherever she plays.
Martha is a charismatic performer with an engaging vocal style who was brought up in the songwriting tradition. Her father is respected singer songwriter Steve Tilston, a contemporary of Nick Drake and as a child Martha became accustomed to finding the likes of Bert Jansch or John Renbourn in the front room. Her stepmother was Folk singer Maggie Boyle who also helped shape her musical style. Although she trained as an actress, music was where Martha's heart lay, and she steadily built up a word of mouth following on the underground festival and acoustic circuit, reinforced by rave live reviews. Martha has drawn big crowds at Glastonbury Festival, has supported Damien Rice on tour and has sold out dates at Brighton 's Komedia and London 's Bush Hall .
Martha releases her long - awaited debut album 'Bimbling' in February 2005 on her own label, Squiggly Records. Standout tracks include the magical 'Red', ' Mary and The Prince', a haunting urban fairytale, 'Over to Ireland ' and 'Firefly' which shows her ear for a memorable melody. The songs are interspersed with sound snippets of Martha's travels during an English summer. 'Bimbling' confirms what fans have long known, that Martha Tilston is on her way to being considered one of our finest young singer songwriters....
