It’s funk. It’s soul. It’s jazz and hip-hop. It sounds a bit edgy and it even sounds a bit rocky. It will make you dance then it will make you think. Its choruses and funky riffs will bounce round your head for days. It’s a living, breathing, emotion-laden vibe that can’t be contained by these words. It has vision. It has life. It’s the Kaldera sound... and you’re gonna love it.

Kaldera is a collective of like-minded individuals brought together through a love of real music. These young musicians share a common goal, striving to bring their unique, feel-good funky sound to the attention of the masses... and it’s happening. High-profile gigs, growing recognition in the music industry and recordings of the finest quality have pushed this emerging musical force to the brink of something big.

The band as it is today is the product of years of musical evolution. Founded in 2000 as a 3-piece rhythm section, Kaldera has adapted and grown to become the 9-piece now on show. The full, layered Kaldera sound did not emerge overnight, but is the product of the wide range of musical influences that each member brings to the melting pot.

The band is fronted superbly by vocalist Debbie Howard. Debbie’s soulful, powerful vocals have been subject to much critical acclaim, and everyone that has been lifted by her soaring melodies can explain why. To provide the groove that drives beneath Debbie’s vocals, the Kaldera rhythm section consists of Tim Haycocks (guitar), Pete Wright (keys), Michael ‘Tiki’ Thomas (bass), Lee Alloway (drums) and Michael Monte Hall (percussion). As well as being highly talented performers individually, these guys understand each others’ playing and combine to produce backing tracks that would stand-alone as engaging instrumentals. Add Debbie’s vocals and Kaldera’s 3-piece horn section and the result is electrifying. The Kaldera horns are Will Rixon (trumpet), Jake Goss (saxophone) and John Allen (trombone), and man can these boys blow! As a section they add even more life and texture to what remains the over-riding priority for all 9 musicians... the Kaldera sound.

Kaldera like to be busy. In a constant search for improvement and acknowledgement, the band splits their time between rehearsal, composition and, most importantly, perfecting the live sound that has brought so much adulation from audiences throughout the UK . The last 2 years have seen the band emerge as a force to be reckoned with on the live circuit, with highlights including 3 support slots for the James Taylor Quartet and an appearance at the Jazz Cafe, Camden . They now perform regularly at some of the UK ’s best live music venues, such as Jagz, Ascot and the HiFi Club, Leeds to name but two.

2005 has brought big things for Kaldera. They have recently finished recording new material for their fourth EP at Incognito’s Blueroom studios. This is their finest work to date, and the band have great vibes about this project, fulfilled under the guidance of producer Simon Cotsworth and featuring Incognito’s Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick on guitar. Two tracks, ‘What the Rhythm’s For’ and ‘Corridors’, are available for download at www.arkade.com.

What comes next for Kaldera remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure... they will continue to bring music to life and they will always strive for more. Why? For them it’s obvious... it’s all about that Kaldera sound
