Categorizing Jorane (pronounced Jo-ran) and her music is not an easy task because of the unique way this talented artist expresses voice and instrument to create a sound that is distinctively her own. Jorane's haunting voice and soulful playing of her cello captivates her audience by weaving a sonic dreamscape. A powerful performer, she illuminates the stage with her pixie-like appearance and depth of her musical prowess. Using her voice as a tool of improvisation, Jorane creates her own kind of language expressed through the palette of her creative ability. A Quebec treasure, Jorane has mastered the art of holding the listener's attention by exploring the relationship between instrument and voice on her six albums to date. Jorane used this intense union of her own vocal language, using her voice as an instrument rather than singing lyrics, paired with her beautiful and distinctive way of playing the cello, to gain audiences and garner accolades around the world.

On her new album, The You and the Now, Jorane explores new musical territory by embracing the power of words. For the first time, she has collaborated with songwriters in order to deliver a deeply personal and introspective body of work to both her fans and to those new to Jorane's music. Jorane invited distinguished writers into the studio: Lisa Germano (John Mellencamp, Simple Minds, Indigo Girls), Simon Wilcox (Three Days Grace, Projet Orange, Randy Bachman) and Shira Myrow. Produced by the innovative Michael Brook (Brian Eno, Mary Margaret O'Hara, The Pogues, Youssou N'Dour...), this album is a collection of songs that will enthrall the listener and appeal to those looking for something deeper in their enjoyment of music. Other distinguished collaborators include the inimitable Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel,Bob Dylan, etc...), who wrote and lends his voice and guitar playing to the only French song on this album "Pour ton sourire" ("For Your Smile"). The Canadian music community has recognized and embraced Jorane's artistry by according her two Juno nominations and an astonishing twelve nominations at ADISQ (incl."Songwriter of the Year" and "Artist Most Recognized Outside of Quebec"). Jorane has also toured extensively internationally to support the release of her albums in foreign territories. "The You and the Now" is slotted for major label release in the UK, France, Germany and other European territories this fall, as well as a potential US release early in the new year.
