Vital, energetic and life affirming are not words that are often used to describe modern Indie bands, Big Wednesday however look set to change that. Having formed a little over two years ago Big Wednesday have wasted little time in establishing themselves as regular fixture in the South’s live music scene as well as releasing two acclaimed EPs; “Jack and Mary” and “Running”. 2004 also saw the band play on the main stage at Guilfest supporting Blondie and The Stranglers and proving to be the surprise sensation of the festival.
The band followed this by recording a live set for M-Channel (Sky Digital channel 475) that showcased the bands awesome live set and added fuel to their ever-growing reputation as a band on the rise. Not that there’s any risk of this going to the bands head of course, Big Wednesday are as unpretentious as they are musically powerful; “We’re not trying to revolutionize the music world”, says Kevin, “we’re just four guys who want to make good music that’ll stand the test of time”.
Not satisfied with writing the kind of songs that will remain firmly embedded in your subconscious long after even the most cursory listen, Big Wednesday inject every note with a youthful passion that ensures that you won’t just be humming the songs in your head; you’ll be frantically tapping on the table as well. It’s this quality that ensures that Big Wednesday’s live shows are a glorious, euphoric experience; “I think what separates us from a lot of our peers is our live show”, states vocalist/guitarist Kevin Andrews, “We’re not shoe-gazers just going through the motions. When we play live we put every bit of ourselves into it”. One listen to Big Wednesday and its immediately obvious that this is a band that love making music together, there’s no cynical ulterior motive just a genuine passion for what they do. “I just love playing guitar”, says guitarist Brian Flack, “and if I get to make music with my best mates then that’s amazing”.
