Born in Sherfield in the south of England, Staff was heavily influenced
from an early age by good time rock 'n' roll bands such as The Stones and
AC/DC. Before embarking on a solo project, Staff had been involved with a
number of bands playing diverse sets that had a Black Crowes' vibe and a Smashing
Pumpkins feel.
After recording one album and an EP with group Hightown Crow, there was a
change in the music scene and the necessity for rock bands had become unfashionable.
Staff and fellow band member Carl Perkins decided a new direction was needed.
The band Driver was formed after Pete Downing had agreed to remix some of
the existing material, which gave the tracks a more modern darker feel. The
electronic fusion of overdriven guitars, synths with on stage visuals and
heavy lights made their live performances stand out above the competition.
Although this new direction was dynamic, Staffs'songwriting skills and ambitious
vocals were not being taxed, so he put together a studio album in a very short
time under the title 'Staff Only'.
Staff spent the next 2 years travelling around America and Europe writing
new material along the way.
After the return in 2003, a redundant pigshed was transformed and a four
track EP was produced to promote himself as a vocalist and to find work in
an established band. The new songs and the quality of the vocals were so good,
he finally decided he must go it alone.
The new album 'Moodswings and Personalities' is due for release in autumn
2004.
