'The Nautical Theme' was formed in May 2003 with the idea of playing at the Isle of Wight rock festival. The band came about from a group of school mates already in two established rock/pop bands. Around Easter that year one of these bands split up. However three of the members were very enthusiastic to continue with their music making and had a great opportunity in which to do it.

Wight Noise, a youth music organisation on the Isle of Wight, had set up auditions to give young bands the chance to open the Isle of Wight rock festival 2003. To maximise our chances, the two bands came together to form 'The Nautical Theme'. By this time, there were just a couple of weeks before these auditions. We quickly organised as many practices as we could before the auditions and got together a set of three original compositions. These three songs along with a good performance were enough to give us the fantastic chance of opening the Isle of Wight Festival.

Since opening the Isle of Wight Festival the band has played a number of gigs including the NEC in Birmingham, a few private functions and regular slots at well-known island venues supporting bands such as "The Bees" - an up and coming island band who recently had a single in the top 40. When we are not gigging we spend most of our time writing new material and making our sets as tight as we can.

Recently the band have won the final of a "band wars" competition in Southampton, reached the National Music for Youth festival in London, where they will play at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in early July, and have been offered a place at Guilfest, the rock festival held in Guilford later in July.
